Founded in 1907, the Ocean Parkway Jewish Center has been a cornerstone of Jewish life in Brooklyn, New York. As the first synagogue built on Ocean Parkway, it proudly celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007.
The synagogue is a warm and welcoming hub for traditional Orthodox Jewish worship, guided by Rabbi Reuvein Dovid (Robert) Blustein. Formerly a Conservative synagogue, it now features a mechitza, reflecting its commitment to traditional practices.
Shabbat services are friendly and inviting. Friday night services begin 30 minutes before sunset, and Shabbat morning services start at 9 a.m., followed by a delightful kiddush that brings the community together.
In addition to services, the synagogue hosts a weekly Torah shiur every Tuesday night, offering engaging learning opportunities. Throughout the year, the congregation comes together for special events, including holiday celebrations and community gatherings. High Holiday services are particularly memorable, led by renowned cantors who enhance the spiritual experience.
The Ocean Parkway Jewish Center also has an active Sisterhood, which organizes a variety of events to strengthen connections within the community.
Join us for a weekly Torah Class, every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Ainbinder Room. Climb the ladder and strengthen your Torah Connection! Refreshments served. Bring a friend.
The Ocean Parkway Jewish Center is a historic synagogue located in the Kensington section of Brooklyn. A plaque on its exterior commemorates the laying of the cornerstone by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Winkelstein on April 26, 1925.
Built that same year, the synagogue is one of Brooklyn's historic landmarks. It originally served as the home of Tifereth Israel / First Congregation of Kensington, established in 1907, and is now known as the Ocean Parkway Jewish Center.
In 2009, the Ocean Parkway Jewish Center was proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its architectural and cultural significance.
